Apple Digital Master delivery with online mastering
Apple Digital Master delivery is included at no extra charge when the source recording is eligible. Vigilante Studio holds Apple Digital Master accreditation, and Rupert prepares the master with the programme requirements in mind.
The important point is that eligibility begins before mastering. The source must contain the resolution Apple requires. Exporting an older or lower-resolution file at a larger bit depth does not replace information that was never recorded.
What Apple Digital Master means
Apple Digital Masters are masters prepared for delivery within Apple’s music ecosystem using source and quality-control requirements intended to preserve the work of the artist and engineer through encoding and playback.
The programme was previously known as Mastered for iTunes. Older references to that name now refer to Apple Digital Masters.
Apple Digital Master is not a different style of mastering. Rupert still makes the decisions around the music. The programme adds a specific source and delivery framework to that work. Apple Digital Masters can also be submitted to other streaming services as higher-quality masters.

Vigilante Studio holds Apple Digital Master accreditation
Apple Digital Masters can only be prepared by Apple-recognised engineers, and Vigilante Studio is accredited to prepare them. For eligible recordings, that delivery is included within the mastering service rather than sold as an upgrade.
The accreditation does not mean every recording automatically qualifies. The source still has to meet the programme requirements, and the final release must travel through a distributor or label that can deliver it correctly.
- Genuine 24-bit source at its native sample rate
- 16-bit source bit-padded or upsampled to a larger export
The source must be genuinely 24 bit
Apple’s source profile requires a true 24-bit source at a native sample rate of at least 44.1 kHz. Bit-padding a 16-bit file or upsampling it to a higher sample rate does not make it eligible.
Send the mix at the resolution used by the recording and production process. Do not convert it simply to display a larger number. When you are unsure how the project was recorded, ask before ordering.
A standard 44.1 kHz, 16-bit WAV or AIFF can still be mastered for a normal release. It simply cannot be presented as an Apple Digital Master source.
Native resolution matters more than a bigger export
A 24-bit mix at its native sample rate is useful because it carries the actual resolution created during recording and mixing. A file that has been enlarged after the fact does not gain new detail.
The same principle applies to sample rate. Keep the mix at the native rate rather than converting it repeatedly between formats. Rupert can prepare the final delivery from the genuine source.

What is included
For an eligible recording, Apple Digital Master delivery is included in the £50 per-track mastering price. There is no separate Apple package and no paid upgrade.
The returned files can include the Apple Digital Master version and a CD-quality version. Confirm any additional album or replication deliverables before ordering.
Mastering and delivery are different responsibilities

Delivery
Your label or distributor is responsible for delivering them through a route that supports Apple Digital Masters and for supplying the required release information.
The badge and final presentation on Apple services are controlled further along the delivery chain. Vigilante Studio cannot guarantee acceptance where the source, metadata or distributor route does not meet the requirements.
This distinction is useful for independent artists. A correctly prepared master still needs a release partner capable of handling the format.
Questions about Apple Digital Masters
Is Apple Digital Master delivery included in the mastering price?
Yes. It is included at no extra charge when the recording is eligible.
Can a 16-bit mix be converted to 24 bit for eligibility?
No. A larger export does not recreate the original recording resolution. The source must have been genuinely 24 bit.
Does my sample rate need to be 96 kHz?
No. Apple accepts suitable 24-bit sources from 44.1 kHz upwards. Use the native sample rate of the project rather than upsampling it simply to reach a higher number.
Does accreditation guarantee that Apple will badge the release?
No. Rupert can prepare the eligible master, but the source, release information and distributor delivery route also need to meet the programme requirements.
